The Black Thorn is not just a Star Wars - The Old Republic guild, but a long standing group of like-minded individuals and friends who get together online and in game often for grim and gritty role-play with very noticeable shades of grey. Part of the Black Thorn’s long running success was each member’s adherence to mutual respect and understanding.
When others look to us as a guild, it is our hope that they will perceive us to be a mature respectful group of people who are always a good fun to role-play with.
At all times be considerate to all members. No political, sexist or racist remarks are allowed if they are meant sincerely or offend another player. This does not mean that friendly joking or teasing is unacceptable, it means when it goes beyond friendly and becomes upsetting to the recipient or anybody listening that it needs to stop out of respect for the feelings of those other players. Fighting in open channels or on the forums is not allowed.
If you cannot resolve a difference with another player, ask for someone to mediate and discuss the issue with them and respect their guidance. If a conversation is upsetting someone and someone (Officer or otherwise) requests that the conversation stop, then heed them. Please apologise if necessary. Severe or repeated violations of this basic tenet can be grounds for dismissal.
While you wear the guild tag of the Black Thorn, you are an ambassador of the Black Thorn. How you behave Out of Character in public can and will reflect upon us as a guild regardless of whether we think it is fair or not. That means that the rules for how you treat guild members with respect also apply to those who are not a member of our guild, regardless of whether they deserve it or not.
Our Officers do not possess excessive rights or responsibilities, and are mostly in their position to ensure the guild story progresses and to be a clear port of call for advice and contact within and outside the guild. We consider our authority based upon respect we have earned, not the trappings of power. What this means for the crew is that each and every member has to accept they have a responsibility to maintain the principals of the guild, express their considered opinions and provide support where necessary in order to keep the guild running smoothly.
Should a player join and then become inactive for a period greater than 90 days without communicating their absence, they will be silently removed from the guild. If you have communicated your absence on the forums, an officer will attempt to contact you first to see if you still plan to return. Returning members are welcome to contact an officer on return to be reinstated to a rank of regular member.
We are a highly active RP group and expect our members to interact with each other regularly. If a player does not regularly participate in official Black Thorn stories in-game, or generally avoids part or all of the group, one or more officers will talk with the member and determine how to get the player involved in group activities. If during the talk it is clear that the player has no interest in becoming more involved, the player may be asked to leave. Depending on the circumstances, the player may be welcome to join again at a later date.
IC and OOC knowledge are considered separate things and must be treated so to the best of a player's ability. Anybody deliberately using OOC knowledge IC to harass or mess up another player's plot lines is being discourteous and ruining the fun for the rest of us and/or the player concerned. Likewise, any IC conflict should be kept to an IC arena and not spill over into OOC or vice versa. If you feel this has been violated, please screenshot the activity and contact an officer for assistance in resolving the matter. Repeated and/or serious violations of this may lead to dismissal.
